GERARD DEPARDIEU – Born December 27th 1948, Chateauroux, Indre (36) Gérard Depardieu, who was born and raised in Chateauroux in a not so glamorous lifestyle, left (dropped out of) school at the tender age of 12 resulting in junior delinquency. But for a chance meeting with an actor who introduced him to a theatre in Paris that gave him his start in what turned out to be an amazing career, his life may well have turned out differently. His debut film was "Le Beatnik et le minet" in 1965. He very quickly became popular in Europe. After a number of successful roles, he starred in "Jean de Florette" (1986) with actress Elisabeth Guignot, who became his first wife and with whom he had his children, Guillaume and Julie – also actors. The film that gave him worldwide appeal (American audiences in particular) was “Green Card” in 1990. In the same year “Cyrano de Bergerac” gained him the César award (the French equivalent to the Oscar). He returned to this region in 2005 to make his latest film (and last, apparently) “Michou d' Auber” directed by Thomas Gilou. Argenton-sur-Creuse was the location for filming, creating quite a buzz locally and on 28th October, Depardieu announced that it would be his last day of filming – having made 170 films by the age of 56, (earning him great respect as one of the hardest working actors), he thought it time to retire. He has had vineyards for 30 years and has two restaurants in Paris, revealing his great love for food and wine. He is engaged to Carole Bouquet (a frequent co-star). Bon Chance Gérard!
